On winning the toss the home skipper invited Westquarter to make first use of a grassy looking pitch. Adam Jeremiah opened with Hamad Mumtaz and the pair set about the bowling from the start with a scoring rate in excess of 5 per over.
Disaster struck when Hamad was run out for 23 and then Adam was caught for 26 and along with two other quick wickets Westquarter were struggling at 60 for 4. This set the pattern for the rest of the innings as Abdul Baqi made 20 before being run out and the only other resistance came in the form of Rishi Chada who hit an excellent 35 not out but unfortunately ran out of partners with the score on 145 from only 35 overs.
Knowing this was about 100 runs short of what it should have been Westquarter set out with a determined attitude. Wickets started to fall as the Marchmont openers fell to the bowling of Colin Fox and Rishi Chada to give Westquarter the start they needed. Fox added another wicket finishing with 2 for 18 from his 10 overs and as Baqi prised 2 more out it looked good at 50 for 5. This is where fortune deserted Westquarter as Stevie Mathers threw caution to the wind and played some big shots and somehow managed to miss all the fielders. As his confidence grew the winning total approached and in the 42nd over he hit the winning runs completing a disappointing afternoon for Westquarter.
