Centenary Match - WRCC 96ao, SCU President's XI 154ao

Despite the heavy rain in Falkirk on Saturday the Westquarter ground staff managed to produce a playable, albeit damp, pitch for this fixture rearranged from last year.

The visitor's team captain by Watsonian's captain Steve Paige included Scotland players, West Lothian's pro and a mixture of players from the national leagues.

With the visitors batting Westquarter made a tremendous start reducing them to 26 for 4 before West Lothian's Kruger Van Wyk and Watsonian's James Easton started to rebuild the innings.  Van Wyk looked comfortable as he worked the singles and put away the bad ball to reach a very impressive fifty.

After reaching 66 he holed out to long off from the bowling of Abdul Baqi with the score now on 122 for 5.  As often happens after a big partnership he was soon followed by Easton who was bowled by Shoeb Farooqui and the innings came to an end as Baqi and Farooqui took the last few wickets.  The final score was 154 all out; a decent total given the damp pitch and slow outfield but also represented a good effort in the field by Westquarter.

It was always going to be an uphill task but Mumtaz and Farooqui put on 30 before both fell to the bowling of Watsonian's Raj Routray.  This sparked a collapse as wickets fell at regular intervals with Heriots Cameron Farell ripping through the middle order to leave the home side on 57 for 8.

A fight back was started by Mohammad Sajid as he hit Van Wyk for 3 boundaries in an over before the man from Boghall got his revenge bowling Sajid. Colin Fox was last man out again to Van Wyk which left Umar Aslam not out at the end with 15, including 3 boundaries.

A good day was had by all who attended and Westquarter would like to thank the umpires, scorer and all the players who turned out for this event, it is very much appreciated.

At the end Westquarter's skipper Shoeb Farooqui accepted a commemorative quaich from SCU vice President Bob McFarlane.
